Fosi Audio MD3 MagDac Portable DAC & Headphone Amplifier

I originally got to test this at AXPONA in Chicago, and the little device really was a lot of fun. I'm not much for the little games or graphics on the back display, but I have it pretty much always set on the VU-esque volume meter, or have it off.
But the sound is great! I was able to power IEMs with ease, but also more power hungry headphones like the i5 planars, or the Grell OAE1. I've been carrying it with me most everywhere I go instead of my ipod pros, and that is a high vote of confidence that I'd rather trade the music fidelity for the ANC of the ipods.

I mainly use wired IEMs, and MD3 makes the whole experience effortless. Better sound, better power, and no annoying dongle hanging from the USB port.

Being able to charge the phone while listening is huge. My old dongle forced me to pick one or the other, especially during long flights and workdays.

I was worried the display was the main selling point, but after listening for a few days, it's clear the audio performance wasn't treated as an afterthought.

I’m not really a professional sound user but I have notice that it makes my music listening sounds much cleaner and available to distinguish the instruments in the background. Great product overall

The magnet doesn’t work through a case and barely attaches without one. The magnet can’t support the weight of the cord for my headphones. I used to use a Earmen DAC and the Fosi definitely sounds better. But I bought it for the magnet and overall I am disappointed with my purchase.

Other than the sleek look and idea , don’t really see a difference it made when it came to audio . sound is tinny and not really an upgrade to listening straight from my phone(iPhone 16)

No esta mal, pero a la hora de subir el volumen no se puede subir con el dispositivo que seria lo mas intuitivo, hay que subirlo en el md3.
Ademas su volumen es bastante bajo en comparación con otros de la competencia como por ejemplo en FiiO ka11 que tiene una respuesta de volumen bastante mejor

I currently own a Fosi IM4, DS3, MC 331 and now the MD3. They are all really good at what they do. Some days I grab the DS3, others the MD3, the passthrough USB-C on the MD3 is really helpful, and being MagSafe too. I will definitely be adding to my collection when I van afford it!

It works great on my iPad, but haven’t found a lightning adapter to work with it yet to test on iPhone.

Most of the pictures show it without a USB cable connected or otherwise go out of their way to hide the cable. For some reason I thought this would have some sort of Bluetooth connection with the cable being optional or just for charging. Not a huge deal, just wasn't quite what i was expecting: the ability to just MagSafe the accessory on and go with no need to fiddle with cables.

It's smaller than I was expecting for some reason. Which is cute. Not bulky at all. Buttons felt a bit plasticy and wobblier than I would have thought too.

As other reviews mention, the magnet is SUPER weak. Barely sticks to my phone and doesn't stay in place, so I guess it's good that the USB cable tethers it into place. It includes a MagSafe ring to glue onto my phone that it sticks a bit better to, but I already have a MagSafe spot on my phone, I don't want to attach another accessory just for a better connection.

Overall a decent USB DAC for my phone that just works without needing any fancy software. And because magsafe means it stays attached (ish) to my phone it doesn't feel like having to carry a second device like other DACs.

Would LOVE a stronger, more secure MagSafe connection, and then I'd go for 5 stars. but really, this feels a bit more like 3.5 rounded up

The magnetic attachment, while convenient, isn’t quite as strong as official Apple MagSafe accessories and can slide off.

I just received my unit, and here are a few points that I think need improvement:

1. Provided USB cables are too short in some circumstances and deployments.
2. The MagSafe magnet on the back of it is too weak. I have an iPhone 17 Pro Max with the case, and this DAC doesn't stay put on it as well as other MagSafe accessories.

Adding custom images and animations gives the product personality. It feels less like a piece of audio gear and more like something I actually own.

There are plenty of DAC dongles on the market, but very few bring something genuinely new. MD3 combines sound quality, convenience, and personality in a way that's hard to ignore.

Several friends immediately asked what was attached to my phone. It's rare for audio gear to attract attention, but this definitely does.

Connected it, attached it magnetically, plugged in my IEMs, and started listening. No complicated setup required.

The little display gives me old-school MP3 player nostalgia. It feels like a modern audiophile gadget with a bit of personality.

Adjusting volume directly on the device is much more convenient than unlocking my phone every time. The controls feel surprisingly useful in daily listening.

Small enough to carry everywhere, powerful enough to make my IEMs shine. It delivers real sound quality improvements without turning my pocket into a cable mess.

I tested it with several high-resolution tracks and the playback was flawless. No random disconnects, no glitches, just smooth and stable performance.

The display is fun, but what convinced me was the ES9039Q2M. It's great to see flagship-level DAC hardware in a product that's actually portable.

ich wurde nicht enttäuscht,Fossi hat es mal wieder geschafft,wie mit dem IM4,mich zu überraschen.Klein,leicht und chic…Aber groß im Klang,Bedienung und Leistung.
Verarbeitung ist top,da wackelt kein Knopf.
Klanglich ist er unglaublich gut,egal welche Musikrichtung,er bleibt ohne Tadel.
